Early model gun mount with mechanical sight and simpler mechanical fire control. Armed with HS.831A autocannon fed by a drum magazine. Introduced somewhere in the early to mid 1950's. Egyptian examples were captured by Israel in 1955.
Main production model using the updated HS.831L autocannon with improved muzzle velocity and higher 650 rpm rate of fire. Introduced in the late 1950's. A box magazine is used which holds eight clips of five rounds, for a total of 40 rounds ready to fire.
The Hispano-Suiza HS.666A was marketed alongside the HS.661B. Both use the same mount with Wankel engine and electronic fire control.
The HS.661A is armed with the HS.831L autocannon, whereas its predecessor is armed with the earlier HS.831A.
